Jameson Hlongwane developed the concept and was responsible for the day to day running of the Ubuntu Village, Wanderers Club, Johannesburg. Ubuntu Village was a multifunctional venue that encompassed 3 major exhibitions including a 10,800 square metre exhibition in the world’s largest portable venue, as well as numerous smaller exhibition spaces. It had a main stage and a theatre which together were the venues for a vibrant cultural program. This was all supported by a food court and an informal traders market. The welcome ceremony for the World Summit on Sustainable Development was also staged at Ubuntu Village.
Formulated budgets and project managed the establishment of an infrastructure including power, water and other services. Appointed the professional construction management team.
Facilitated all logistical functions, including the construction of exhibitions and concert platforms. Selected and appointed outsourced contractors to handle services such as refuse, perimeter and internal security etc.
Negotiated contracts with the Department of Arts and Culture, Johannesburg City Parks Department, South African Post Office, South African Breweries, Computicket, event management and related companies for the supply of products and services.
Established a Health Safety and Disaster Management Plan, working in close contact with the South African Police Services, Metro Police Services, Ambulance and Fire Services and the Department of Health at national and provincial levels.
